Originally released in the early-mid 1960s, Filmotype developed and released Royal as one of its earliest Transitional Serif typefaces inspired by lettering used on steam-era passenger train coaches.
Inspired by Royal’s aesthetic, type designer Charles Gibbons expanded and developed a full range of styles based on exploring a variety of useful width variations. While it had been Filmotype’s practice to generate width variant typefaces using camera stretching techniques, Gibbons instead mastered each alphabet at its native width to create exceptional typesetting throughout the family.
The Filmotype Royal typeface was developed from the original font filmstrips and each additional weight was created as an inspired original; each Royal family member includes a full international character complement, automatic fractionals, ordinals, and a host of alternate characters in dynamic OpenType format.

Spy Royal is a junctionless script typeface and comes in 6 styles. It’s a hybrid between script and so called streamline fonts. The origins are based on an advertising by Japan Airlines, dated around 1954, offering flights to San Francisco, Honolulu and Okinawa in the new DC-6B “Pacific Courier” airplane. Only the letters for the words “JAPAN AIR LINES” were used, so that the creative part was to reimagine a full font out of just a handful of uppercase letters.

RoyalBavarian was comissioned by King Ludwig the First of Bavaria about 1834. He was probably the greatest king Bavaria ever had, but he fell in disgrace for a short affair with the infamous Lola Montez and subsequently had to resign. 16. Ayres Royal
The author designed Ayres Royal to honour London’s famous calligrapher John Ayres (about 1700). He designed calligraphy examples called The Accomplished Clerk, that were meant to be for the office clerk.
17. 1790 Royal Printing
From 1702 to 1811 the French “Royal”, then “Imperial”, Printers, neglected Garamond and Fournier’s designs and used only the font called “Romain du Roy”, carved (1693 to 1723) by Philippe Grandjean by order of the king Louis XIV.
1790 Royal Printing was inspired by various variants of Romain du Roy that were in use during this period. sources were mainly official and legal documents printed in the late royal period, and in the beginning of the French revolution.

23. Imprenta Royal Nonpareil
Imprenta Royal Nonpareil is the Intellecta’s version of “Nonpareil”, an ancient font founded in the rare book “Muestras de los Punzones y Matrices de Letra que se funde en el Obrador de la Imprenta Real, Madrid, Ano de 1799”.
